Pensions and Retirement
Alongside our homes, for most people in the UK our pension fund represents our single largest asset. 2016 saw a landmark change in how pensions could be accessed, providing individuals with the freedom to draw on the fund whilst retaining control and ownership.
Here at Churchill, we work with clients throughout their lives, funding pensions in earlier years, investing these assets sensibly in line with individual requirements and then structuring sustainable income in later life.
Not everyone needs to take an income from their pension fund, which in its current form is amongst the most generous inheritance tax planning solutions in the market. Our broad-based approach ensures that when the time to retire arrives, your income is structured in the most efficient way possible.
We work with a range of pension providers to ensure that our recommendations are tailored to the needs of the clients we work with. In many cases modern platform pensions provide an ideal blend of acceptable costs alongside the freedom to invest in the broad regulated UK market and indeed take advantage of the income flexibilities which were first introduced in 2016. Such products are not suitable for everyone – more complex situations may involve holding commercial property in a pension, whereas for those early in their savings journey simpler products can be equally appropriate. Retirement planning and pension investment require a detailed understanding of the broader situation to ensure that the recommendations align to your needs.
